Lewis said of the event:

“It was a great opportunity to meet Labour politicians and leaders, such as Jeremy Corbyn and Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, and hear more about their manifestos.”

He added:

“I had the opportunity to speak to party leaders; I talked about the issues that matter to me, including education cuts, and they told me their plans for future funding.”

The event was motivation for Lewis and how he can help his party locally in the May 3rd election campaign. Lewis will accompany others to canvas the local area for support.

Principal, Miss Wicks said:

“It is fantastic to hear about students that are so passionate about their involvement in Politics.”

In school, Lewis has taken an active part in Wellacre’s Politics programme.  He has also trained as one of the school’s Anti-bullying Ambassadors and regularly supports school events.  Outside of school, as well as supporting the Labour party, he also participates in the local Youth Parliament.

Wellacre supports engagement in Politics with projects such as Peers in Schools and Digital Surgeries, which bring about meaningful conversations between students and politicians.

Miss Wicks added:

“At Wellacre, we place great value on encouraging active citizenship with our democratic education programme. It is important for all our students to understand they have a voice and that they can be heard on issues that matter to them to evoke positive change in the world around them.”
